Indian data centre provider Web Werks has been fully acquired by its joint venture (JV) partner Iron Mountain, in one of the largest transactions in the country’s data centre industry.

The founders of Web Werks, Nikhil and Nishant Rathi, had secured an investment of $150 million when the joint venture was formed in 2021, followed by an additional $170 million in 2023.

Established in 1996, Web Werks is a provider of Tier III and Tier IV data centre solutions in India, offering robust and scalable infrastructure services to businesses across industries.

The company, which serves over 1,300 clients globally, specialises in colocation, cloud hosting, disaster recovery, and managed services, catering to enterprises, hyperscalers, and government organisations.

The acquisition marks a significant milestone for the company, solidifying its legacy as a key enabler of India’s digital economy.

As part of the transition, Web Werks will now operate under a new brand identity while continuing to serve its enterprise clients without disruption.

“What started with just 40 people and three data centres at 1MW capacity has grown into a team of over 200 with 162 MW of capacity,” Nikhil Rathi, co-founder, Web Werks and NeoSOFT. “Since then, we have blitzscaled to a capability of a total of 6 live data centres in major cities and a family of over 200 people,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nishant Rathi, co-founder of Web Werks and NeoSOFT, added: “While this marks an exciting new chapter for Web Werks, our commitment to fostering growth in the technology sector remains strong.”

Iron Mountain, headquartered in the US, specialises in storage and protection of physical and digital assets. Established in 1951, it has catered to over 225,000 organisations around the world across sectors such as financial services, healthcare, retail & e-commerce, among others.
