India Digest: Tribe Stays bags seed funding; NIIF trims Ather Energy stake

Tribe Stays has raised $2.8 million in its seed funding round co-led by Artha Venture Fund and Riverwalk Holdings, while the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund has sold 49% of its shareholding in Ather Energy.

Tribe Stays secures $2.8m from Artha, others

Hospitality brand Tribe Stays has raised $2.8 million (₹24 crore) in its seed funding round co-led by Artha Venture Fund and Riverwalk Holdings.

The funding also saw participation from Kunal Khanna, Krishna Jain, and several HNIs and family offices, per media reports.

Tribe Stays will use the funds to expand its portfolio across its three sub-brands: Tribe Student Accommodation, Tribe Commune, and Tribe Suites.

Founded in 2018 by Yogesh Mehra, Shantam Mehra, and Aman Mehra, Tribe Stays provides living spaces for students, professionals, corporates, and executive guests across major Indian cities. The startup currently operates 650 beds in Pune and plans to add 1,000 more this financial year.

The company aims to scale its capacity to 25,000 beds across Tier I and Tier II cities, including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Gurugram, and Pune.

NIIF offloads $60m stake in Ather Energy

The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) sold 49% of its shareholding in Ather Energy through open-market transactions on November 13, 2025.

NIIF offloaded 87 lakh shares at an average price of Rs 622.35 per share, amounting to approximately Rs 541 crore. As of September 30, the fund held 1.77 crore shares in Ather Energy.

The block deal saw strong institutional interest, led by Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, which purchased shares worth Rs 150 crore. Invesco Mutual Fund followed with Rs 120 crore, while Param Capital acquired shares valued at Rs 99.57 crore. Société Générale also participated, buying Rs 61.9 crore worth of shares.

Other buyers include Edelweiss Mutual Fund, Ashoka WhiteOak ICAV, India Acorn ICAV (sub-account Ashoka India Opportunities Fund), and Ghisallo Master Fund LP.
