Indonesian grab-and-go coffee unicorn Kopi Kenangan is set to expand into Taiwan as part of its ambitious international growth strategy, following recent launches in Australia and India, a top executive told the media.

The move will mark the company’s presence in a sixth overseas market, after launching in Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, India, and Australia.

Kenangan Brands’ co-founder and CEO Edward Tirtanata said during a press briefing in Jakarta last week that the company aims to be present in two more countries by the end of 2025, with Taiwan confirmed as one of the next destinations. The company is targeting 100 outlets outside Indonesia as part of its global expansion push.

The company operates over 1.000 outlets across 67 cities in Indonesia and five countries since its establishment in 2017. Its current international footprint includes 98 outlets in Malaysia, seven in Singapore, two in the Philippines, and one in India.

Tirtanata said Australia was selected for its large and diverse coffee-loving community, making it a strategic market for introducing Southeast Asian-style coffee. Signature drinks like the Kenangan Latte, made with Indonesian palm sugar, are featured at international outlets, along with locally curated options tailored for the Australian palate. After opening at Westfield Sydney, the company is preparing for its next move to Melbourne.

“Our approach is flexible. In Australia, it’s a partnership; in Taiwan, it will be a joint venture; and in India, we operate the stores directly. The model depends on the legal and regulatory framework of each market,” he said, as quoted by Kompas.com.

Kopi Kenangan operates internationally under the brand name Kenangan Coffee. In India, the company plans to open four outlets, with two more scheduled for June 2025. Its first Indian outlet opened at Pacific Mall in New Delhi, a location chosen for its large Gen Z population. Additional stores will follow in Connaught Place and Greater Kailash II (GK II).
