KKR-Weave Living platform expands Japan residential portfolio with 6 deals

Private equity major KKR and Asia’s living sector specialist Weave Living have expanded their strategic partnership in Japan with the acquisition of six residential properties in Tokyo, the companies said.

The latest acquisitions are part of the Weave Living Japan Residential Venture I, a platform launched by Weave and KKR earlier this year. The new assets bring the venture’s portfolio to 17 properties within six months of inception.

Three of the newly acquired properties are located in Tokyo’s upscale Minato ward, namely Roppongi, Minami Azabu, and Shirokane, per the announcement.

The Roppongi and Minami Azabu properties will mark the Japan debut of the Weave Residences brand, offering fully furnished family-friendly units targeting corporate tenants and executives.

More than 240 units are expected to become available starting in autumn 2025. Each unit will feature flexible leasing options, digital-first leasing processes, and all-inclusive pricing that covers Wi-Fi and utilities, the companies said.

“This expansion underscores our conviction in the long-term fundamentals of Japan’s residential sector and ability to deliver high-quality, differentiated offerings to meet the evolving residential needs of corporates and executives in Japan,” said Kensuke Kudo, managing director, Real Estate, at KKR.

KKR said the investment was made through its Asia real estate strategy and follows the firm’s broader involvement in Japanese real estate through platforms including KJR Management and portfolios in hospitality and multifamily housing.

Founded in 2017, Weave Living operates properties in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, with expansion plans underway. Its portfolio spans co-living spaces, serviced apartments, and luxury residences designed for urban professionals.

“As part of our steady growth in the Japan market and across Asia-Pacific, we are thrilled to expand our collaboration with KKR and our Japan-based offering to six new locations that are extremely desirable even by Tokyo standards,” said Weave Living founder and CEO Sachin Doshi.

KKR and Weave Living first announced their strategic partnership in Japan in November last year to develop over 3,000 multi-family residential units.

The partnership has been seeded with 11 brand-new residential properties in Tokyo, comprising 439 units that Weave Living acquired and stabilised over the last 12 months since it announced its debut acquisitions in Japan in 2023.

The collaboration builds on the two firms’ urban living partnership in South Korea announced in March last year.
