Singapore-headquartered data centre operator Digital Edge has secured a 5.5 trillion rupiah ($325 million) corporate loan facility from Bank Central Asia (BCA).

The loan facility is for the firm’s Indonesian operations, Indointernet (Indonet) and its wholly owned subsidiary Ekagrata Data Gemilang (EDGE DC). The proceeds will be used to finance ongoing expansion in the Greater Jakarta area, refinance an existing BCA loan, and complete the final phase of the 23MW EDGE2 data centre.

The EDGE2 site, located in Kuningan Mulia, South Jakarta, is claimed to have one of the most efficient power usage rates in the market, with an annualised PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of 1.24.

Digital Edge’s CFO Jonathan Walbridge said, “This facility will support our continued development of sustainable and market-leading digital infrastructure to the world’s fourth most populous country.”

Meanwhile, BCA’s corporate director, Rudy Susanto, said the bank views the nation’s digital economy as a major growth driver and aims to support it through strategic financing partnerships. “We believe Indonet and EDGE DC have the proven track record and capabilities to meet these needs,” he said.

In August 2020, the New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners established Digital Edge to provide efficient and cost-effective digital infrastructure. As of now, it operates around 25 data centres across nine Asia-Pacific countries, with a total secured IT power capacity exceeding 1.1 GW.

In September, it launched its new data centre location in Tokyo and started groundbreaking in Thailand, its first joint project with Thailand’s B.Grimm Power, which is targeting to be ready for service (RFS) in Q4 2026.

Earlier this year, the firm secured funding of over $1.6 billion in a mix of equity and debt from some of the world’s largest institutional investors and sovereign wealth funds.
