Temasek Trust’s Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health (C3H) has led the $11.6-million Series A funding round in Equatic, a US company developing seawater electrolysis technology for carbon removal and green hydrogen production.

Singapore-based Kibo Invest co-led the funding round, which also drew participation from individual and institutional investors, including Stacey Nicholas, the Aga Khan Foundation, filmmaker Adam McKay, and Lee Cooper.

Equatic has also received ongoing support from Grantham Neglected Climate Opportunities since its inception.

In a statement, Temasek Trust said the financing will support engineering work on Equatic’s first commercial facility capable of removing 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, as well as manufacturing, technology development, and broader commercialisation.

Equatic’s technology addresses two critical environmental challenges simultaneously by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and producing carbon-negative hydrogen through a single, scalable process.

The company’s patented approach accelerates the ocean’s natural ability to absorb and permanently store carbon while generating green hydrogen as a valuable byproduct.

The technology has been validated through pilots in Los Angeles and Singapore, with strong off-take interest, per the announcement.

“We are delighted to support Equatic’s goal in advancing promising climate mitigation solutions that offer permanent, durable carbon removal with green hydrogen production for scalable, tangible impact, and commercial benefit,” said C3H head Ryan Tan.

Kibo Invest chief executive James Marshall said the company addresses “two critical needs: decarbonisation and clean energy.”

Founded as SeaChange, Equatic won Temasek Foundation’s The Liveability Challenge in 2021, receiving S$1 million in funding.

It piloted its technology with Singapore’s national water agency PUB and was named a finalist for The Earthshot Prize in 2024.

This financing catalyses Equatic’s mission to deliver cost-effective and durable carbon removal at scale,” said Gaurav N. Sant, founder and chief technology officer, Equatic.

C3H, part of the philanthropic and investment ecosystem of Singapore’s Temasek Trust, focuses on early-stage innovators in climate, health, and related fields.

Its activities are anchored by Temasek Trust’s impact areas of Planet, People, Peace, and Progress.
