Bertelsmann leads $32m funding in Indian rural commerce startup Rozana

Rozana, a rural omnichannel retail platform, has secured Rs 290 crore ($31.6 million) in fresh funding led by Bertelsmann India Investments, per media reports.

This marks the company’s Series B round that also saw participation from investors such as Fireside Ventures, Spark Growth Ventures, Bikaji Family Office, and FE Securities, among others.

The startup, established in 2021, plans to use the capital to strengthen its technology infrastructure, expand product categories, build private label offerings, and deepen partnerships with brands.

Rozana is a retail technology platform that connects rural consumers with local shopkeepers and brands, enabling them to access a wide range of products through digital ordering and local delivery networks.

According to its website, the platform offers a catalog of more than 1,000 products across categories such as groceries, electronics, footwear, and other items. It says the selection includes both daily essentials special products.

For entrepreneurs, tapping into the rural economy represents a significant opportunity due to its large and growing consumer base and increasing purchasing power in smaller towns and villages.

This mirrors the maturation of India’s consumer ecosystem.

Rozana raised $22.5 million in its Series A round in March 2024, led by Bertelsmann India Investments, with participation from Fireside Ventures. Earlier, in April 2022, the startup had secured $2.5 million in a pre-Series A round from 3one4 Capital and IEG Investment Banking Group.
