Asia-focused private equity firm Invictus Private Equity Asia has appointed Jeremy Foo as partner and head of Southeast Asia, effective November 1. In a separate development, Unicorn India Ventures has launched its US operations under former Google executive Kishore Kanakamedala.
Invictus names Jeremy Foo as SE Asia head
Invictus Private Equity Asia has appointed Foundation Private Equity co-founder Jeremy Foo as partner and head of Southeast Asia, effective November 1.
Foo will help the firm’s portfolio companies in Japan and South Korea expand into Southeast Asia through organic growth and bolt-on acquisitions. He will eventually lead efforts to pursue control investments in the region, according to a statement on Monday.
Foo co-founded Foundation Private Equity, an Asia-focused GP-led secondaries specialist, where he spent nearly a decade. He will remain as a senior advisor to help oversee exits from its first fund, which was launched in 2021 and is now fully deployed.
Before Foundation PE, Foo held private equity roles at Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity, Standard Chartered Private Equity, Southern Capital Group and Navis Capital Partners.
The appointment follows Invictus’ fourth acquisition and second in Japan: the buyout of Dr AGA, a Japanese hair-loss clinic chain. Chief executive and managing partner Jack Oh said the firm’s expansion into Southeast Asia would support its next stage of growth.
Founded in 2023, Invictus is a middle-market private equity firm with offices in Seoul, Tokyo and Singapore. It focuses on platform investments in Japan and South Korea, alongside bolt-on deals across Asia, with investments spanning healthcare, hospitality, media and waste management.
Unicorn India Ventures hires parner to lead US ops
Deeptech venture capital firm Unicorn India Ventures has launched its US operations under former Google executive Kishore Kanakamedala, per an announcement.
Kanakamedala, who joins as a venture partner, will build a team of mid- to senior-level professionals to help the fund’s portfolio companies expand in the US. He will also promote India’s deeptech sector among US investors and build an investor base in the country.
“Since we closed our third fund of Rs 1,200 crore earlier this year, the US operations launch has been our next obvious step,” said Bhaskar Maumdar, Founder Managing Partner in a statement. “We saw the investors across the US showing significant interest to invest in Indian deeptech startups.”
Unicorn India Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm that invests in sectors such as semiconductors, space, defence, health, robotics and agritech. It manages approximately $350 million across its funds.
