Origin, a physical AI startup developing robots for interior construction, has raised $20 million in a funding round co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures.
The funding also saw participation from Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures and Z21, alongside angel investors from Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla.
The company will use the funds to expand its robot fleet and deploy its flagship OG-1 robot while conducting large-scale customer pilots in the US and Europe. These include pilots with two of the largest drywall-finishing contractors in the US, with further deployments planned in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia.
The funding will also support the expansion of Origin’s robotics platform to additional interior construction tasks.
Founded in 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga and Tushar Makkar, Origin is building a general-purpose robotic platform for construction, starting with interior finishing. Its first robot, OG-1, autonomously applies compound, sands and primes walls, handling everything from large surfaces to corners, edges, and work at height.
In a blog post, Zacua Ventures pointed that construction is one of the world’s largest industries, yet remains among the least automated. Productivity has barely improved over the past two decades, while a growing shortage of skilled workers is making it harder to meet rising infrastructure demand.
The challenge lies in the nature of construction itself. Factories operate in controlled environments, while construction sites are constantly changing. Every project brings different layouts, surfaces, obstacles, and working conditions. Building robots that can reliably navigate this complexity has historically been extraordinarily difficult, the firm added.
