I Squared Capital is planning to form a partnership with the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to establish a $3 billion investment platform focused on developing critical energy infrastructure across South and Southeast Asia, per a release on Wednesday (June 17).
I Squared-managed vehicles and DFC will each commit $1.5 billion to the platform, which aims to strengthen energy connectivity between the US and the Indo-Pacific region, including expanding access to the US LNG and related energy exports.
The platform underscores the growing role of public-private partnerships in mobilising large-scale private capital for emerging markets, particularly to address structural energy infrastructure gaps in Asia.
Since 2016, DFC has committed $500 million to I Squared, while I Squared-managed funds have invested $1.5 billion across other vehicles, collectively mobilising about $2 billion in infrastructure investments across South and Southeast Asia and Latin America.
“Energy security has become one of the defining infrastructure challenges of our time,” said Sadek Wahba, Chairman and Managing Partner of I Squared Capital.
“The opportunity to invest alongside DFC once again underscores the importance of public-private partnerships and how mobilising private capital at scale for emerging economies can accelerate the development of essential infrastructure, enhancing supply chain resilience, supporting economic growth and creating long-term value for communities.”
Energy demand growth driven by rapid industrialisation, urbanisation, and rising electricity consumption across the region has created significant investment needs in generation, storage and transport infrastructure. Many markets continue to face structural shortages that contribute to supply volatility and constrain industrial expansion.
I Squared said it has deployed more than $9 billion across Asia since 2014 across energy, utilities, transport and digital infrastructure, positioning it to support the expansion of LNG import and distribution infrastructure under the new platform.
